Safeguarding at Riverhead Preschool
Keeping Your Child Safe, Happy and Supported
We understand that leaving your child in someone else’s care is a big step. At Riverhead Preschool, your child’s safety, wellbeing and happiness are always our priority.
We create a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels secure, valued and listened to. Our team builds trusting relationships with children and families, while regular safeguarding training ensures our staff are confident in recognising and responding to any concerns.
Our aim is simple: to help every child feel safe, supported and confident to learn and thrive.

What Does Safeguarding Mean?
Safeguarding means protecting children from harm and promoting their overall wellbeing. It includes everything we do to help children stay safe, healthy and supported.
This means:
protecting children from abuse, neglect and harm; providing safe and effective care; supporting children's development and wellbeing; ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Safeguarding is part of our everyday practice at Riverhead Preschool: from the activities we provide and the environment we create, to the relationships we build with children and families.

Our Commitment to Your Family
At Riverhead Preschool, we are committed to:
- creating a warm, welcoming and safe environment where every child feels they belong,
- promoting children's emotional, physical and social wellbeing,
- listening carefully to children and respecting their voices,
- working closely with parents and carers as partners in their child's development,
- recognising and responding to any concerns about a child's welfare,
- ensuring all staff understand their safeguarding responsibilities.
By working together, we can ensure that every child receives the care, encouragement and support they need.

Child Protection
Child protection is an important part of safeguarding. If we have a concern that a child may be experiencing, or may be at risk of experiencing, harm, we have clear procedures in place to ensure concerns are taken seriously and responded to appropriately.
Where necessary, we work with families and other professionals, including relevant local authority services, to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.
Working Together to Keep Children Safe
We encourage parents, carers, staff and visitors to speak to us if they have any concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing. No concern is too small, and we would always rather have a conversation than for someone to worry alone.
If you have a concern, please speak to a member of our safeguarding team. All concerns are handled sensitively, respectfully and in line with our safeguarding procedures.
If your concern relates to a member of staff, please raise this with the Preschool Manager in accordance with our Whistleblowing Policy, where it can be found in the entrance of the preschool.
