The Riverhead Approach
While we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, our curriculum is brought to life through the strong relationships we build with children and families.
We take time to truly know your child, their interests, strengths, personalities and individual needs, so that we can provide meaningful experiences that inspire and challenge them at the right level.
Inspired by elements of the Reggio Emilia approach, we see children as capable, creative and curious learners. We encourage children to ask questions, investigate, experiment, express their ideas and develop their own understanding of the world.
Seven Areas of Learning
Communication and Language
Communication is at the heart of everything we do. Children develop their speaking, listening and understanding skills through conversations, stories, songs, rhymes and everyday interactions. At Riverhead Preschool we encourage children to share their ideas, ask questions and become confident communicators.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
At Riverhead Preschool we support children to develop confidence, independence and positive relationships. Children learn to understand and manage their emotions, show kindness, respect others and develop a strong sense of belonging within our preschool community.
Physical Development
Through active play, movement and outdoor experiences, we aim to develop children's coordination, balance, strength and fine motor skills. We encourage independence through self-care routines and support them to develop healthy habits.
Literacy
At Riverhead Preschool, we inspire a love of books, stories and language. Through storytelling, songs, mark-making, phonics and everyday experiences, children develop their imagination, vocabulary and early literacy skills in a fun and meaningful way.
Mathematics
We help children discover that mathematics is all around them. Through play, games and everyday experiences, children develop confidence with numbers, shapes, patterns, measures and problem-solving.
Understanding the World
We encourage children to explore the world around them through nature, technology, outdoor learning and experiences that celebrate different people, cultures and communities. Our Forest School-inspired sessions help children develop curiosity and a love of the natural environment.
Expressive Art and Design
At Riverhead Preschool, we celebrate every child's creativity. Through art, music, movement, role play and imaginative play, children are encouraged to express their ideas, build confidence and develop their imagination.
